Student suffered tragic death after falling into bin trying to find phone before being crushed and incinerated

Police in Majorca have said that a woman is believed to have died after falling into a rubbish bin.

Agostina Rubini Medina has been missing for over two weeks in Majorca after disappearing at the end of a night out with friends in Palma on 2 October.

Officials have said that they believe the student tried to retrieve something from a bin and passed out during the process, with the bin then emptied into a waste lorry where she was crushed to death in the early hours of the following morning.

At a press conference last Thursday (17 October), Spanish police said they feared she had been crushed to death inside the lorry, before her remains were incinerated at a waste disposal centre the lorry drove to.

They had been using her mobile phone signal to trace her movements on the night she went missing and a witness told them they saw the woman’s handbag next to the bin about 15 minutes before it was emptied into the lorry.

Investigators are now looking for evidence of the student’s DNA at the landfill site in an attempt to confirm what happened to her.

Deputy Police Chief Fernando Reboyras said: “She was a thin woman who had difficulty consuming alcohol. This was made worse by the medication she was taking.”

He added that the investigation believes Medina had been waiting for a bus at around midnight when something of hers fell into the bin and she got inside to get it back.

A witness who was at the bus stop at 12:12am said they saw the 24-year-old student’s handbag, but did not hear calls for help or screams from within the bin.

Binmen arrived 15 minutes later, collecting the rubbish from the bin at 12:27am and emptying it into their lorry where they believe she was crushed to death.

The bin lorry arrived at the landfill site where the woman’s phone went dead at 12:52am.

Investigators have said that it is ‘impossible to survive inside a rubbish truck’ and the 24-year-old would have been dead on the journey to the landfill site.

According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, officers at last week’s press conference said the woman was last seen at 11:57pm on 2 October where they believed she intended to wait for a bus.

Ángel Ruiz, head of the National Police’s Homicide Group, said investigators are certain ‘she never took that bus’.

They also report that the student’s phone last gave a signal at 2:59am and that skeletal remains have been found and sent for analysis.

Chilling admission 'world's most famous missing tourist' made to mum on phone call before disappearing

Chilling admission ‘world’s most famous missing tourist’ made to mum on phone call before disappearing

Lars Mittank told his mum he thought people were after him

On 8 July, 2014 a man who was set to board a flight from Bulgaria to Germany ran out of Varna Airport shouting: “I don’t want to die here! I have to get out of here!”

He left behind all of his belongings including his passport and CCTV spotted him running out of the airport, climbing over a fence and heading towards a forest.

He was never seen again.

Lars Mittank is sometimes described as the ‘world’s most famous missing person’ after camera footage of him running out of the airport went viral online, but this fame hasn’t helped anyone find him.

The German man and Werder Bremen fan had been out on holiday in Bulgaria with friends when he ended up getting into a disagreement with a group of Bayern Munich fans on 6 July, 2014.

Later on that night Mittank split off from his friends and they didn’t see him until the next morning, when they did he said he’d been beaten up by a group of men hired by the football fans he’d disagreed with.

While the group was due to fly back to Germany on 7 July, Mittank was checked over by a doctor who told him he’d suffered damage to his jaw and a ruptured eardrum as a result of his injuries, and advised him not to fly.

His friends wanted to stay with him and skip their flight but he persuaded them to stick to their schedule and fly home without him.

Mittank booked a cheap hotel near the airport and while he was there he made a chilling call to his mum.

The 28-year-old told her there were people following him who wanted him dead and told her to cancel his credit cards.

His mother Sandra said: “I thought, God, my son is in danger. I could hear his heart pounding over the phone.

“He said people were trying to rob him or kill him.”

CCTV at the hotel saw him pacing up and down hallways as well as hiding in a lift, and the next morning he again called his mum to say that the people coming for him were getting closer.

On 8 July he texted his mum to say he was at the airport, and while he was there he visited a doctor, Kosta Kostoc.

The doctor later said that Mittank was acting in a ‘nervous and erratic’ manner, but he told the man he was well enough to board a flight home.

However, Mittank was worried about the medication he’d been prescribed by the doctor who treated his ruptured eardrum and when a construction worker entered the doctor’s office the 28-year-old fled and shouted about how he didn’t want to die, with the footage of him being the last time he was seen in public.

By running away he abandoned his luggage, including his wallet, phone and passport, and the case has never been solved.

There have been a number of theories, but the world hasn’t seen hide nor hair of him for over a decad

Matthew Perry's tragic final words revealed during investigation into actor's death

Matthew Perry’s tragic final words revealed during investigation into actor’s death

Court documents record the last thing Matthew Perry said to his assistant Kenneth Iwamasa

An investigation into the death of actor and author Matthew Perry has revealed the final words he spoke to his assistant before he died.

Five people have been charged in connection with Perry’s death, which occurred last year when the actor was 54.

They include Perry’s live-in assistant, two doctors and a woman referred to as the ‘ketamine queen’, with US attorney Martin Estrada saying that the investigation unearthed a ‘broad underground criminal network’ of people who took advantage of the actor.

At a recent press briefing in Los Angeles it was announced that Perry became addicted to intravenous ketamine while seeking treatment for depression and anxiety, resulting in him becoming involved with ‘unscrupulous doctors who saw Perry as a way to make quick money’.

Perry had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy as a treatment for depression and anxiety, but his last official treatment had been more than a week prior to his death.

The indictment claims that doctors Salvador Plasencia, 42, and Mark Chavez, 54, discussed supplying Perry with ketamine, writing ‘I wonder how much this moron will pay’ in messages.

Plasencia allegedly taught Perry’s assistant, who had never received medical training, how to apply the intravenous ketamine.

Jasveen Sangha, 41, a woman known as the ‘ketamine queen’ also supplied ketamine to Perry through a ‘broker’ called Eric Fleming, 54, who pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death.

Court documents show that Fleming admitted to distributing the ketamine which took Matthew Perry’s life, and that it had been supplied by Sangha.

Iwasama, 59, pleaded guilty to a charge conspiring to distribute ketamine causing death, admitting he had been ‘repeatedly injecting Perry with ketamine without medical training’.

The actor’s assistant said he performed multiple injections on 28 October, 2023, the day Perry died.

According to court documents, Perry asked Iwasama to give him a dose of ketamine at 8.30am on 28 October, and then asked for a second dose around four hours later.

He then asked for a third dose of ketamine to be administered later in the day, with documents indicating that his final words to Iwasama were ‘shoot me up with a big one’.

The assistant then left Perry’s home to run errands and when he returned he found the actor dead.

Plasencia pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine, seven counts of distribution of ketamine and two charges related to allegations he falsified documents during the investigation into Perry’s death.

Sangha pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine, maintaining a drug-involved premises, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute ketamine and five counts of distribution of ketamine.

Terrifying moment woman is thrown to her death out of window after falling off treadmill

Terrifying moment woman is thrown to her death out of window after falling off treadmill

She’d been working out for just 30 minutes when the freak accident happened

CCTV footage has captured the horrifying moment a woman was thrown to her death from a third-floor window after falling off a treadmill.

The freak accident took place on 18 June at a busy gym in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Local media reported the unnamed woman, who was reportedly 22 years old, had come to the gym with her boyfriend, who was working out on a different floor.

Police said she had been using the treadmill for about 30 minutes when she stopped to wipe her face with a towel.

Unfortunately, she lost her balance and, as the treadmill kept going, she tripped backwards and tumbled out of an open window.

Footage shows her desperately trying to grab onto the frame of the third-floor window but she soon fell.

The woman was reportedly rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead due to a bleed on her brain.

An autopsy reportedly revealed that she’d suffered extensive bruising and lacerations on her head.

Following the tragic incident, the gym was forced to close for three days.

It’s said the venue is now being investigated for alleged negligence.

Pontianak Police Commissioner Antonius Trias Kuncurojati said: “It’s very easy for someone to fall off the treadmill and then fall down.”

He also said that the treadmill and open window were only 60cm apart, while the window was just 30cm off the ground.

Police also stressed that the glass of the windows was too thin for a high-rise building.

While the windows can be left open for cleaning purposes, police said there were no warning signs nearby.

Stickers asking visitors to not open the windows were also reportedly damaged.

Police will now question witnesses and individuals suspected of leaving the windows open and the gym’s operating permit will be re-examined.

Last year, a weightlifter died after 60kg weight fell on his neck during a bench press.

Carl Hughes, 61, was found dead in his Rhos-on-Sea apartment after a neighbour decided to check on him after he didn’t collect his newspaper.

To their horror, they discovered Hughes dead underneath a 60kg metal bar.

An inquest opening heard that the veteran weightlifter was exercising alone in his apartment complex when he became trapped with the barbell wrapped around his neck.

His cause of death was asphyxia secondary to neck compression by a bar.

Friends that vanished while on hike left disturbing photo on their phones beforehand

Friends that vanished while on hike left disturbing photo on their phones beforehand

They disappeared 10 years ago and their bodies were found

A decade ago, friends Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon vanished while on a hike on Panama’s ‘El Pianista’ trail.

They went missing on 1 April, 2014 and it was several months before body parts were found.

Kremers, 21, and Froon, 22, had been planning the hike for months and are believed to have travelled through a forested area near the Baru volcano in Boquete, Panama.

However, they were never seen alive again and despite an extensive search being launched, it wasn’t until June that more clues were uncovered.

Someone handed over Froon’s backpack, saying they found it by a riverbank, which contained money, water, two phones and a camera.

The phones showed that about six hours into the hike, both phones had been used to try and call the emergency services, but a lack of signal meant the calls never got through.

The women had dialled 112, an international emergency number, and 911, Panama’s national emergency number.

Further investigation found that Froon’s phone, a Samsung Galaxy S III, ran out of battery on 4 April and was not used again, while Kremers iPhone 4 was turned on and off at times between 5 April and 11 April, but the correct PIN code was never entered.

That could mean that someone was entering the wrong PIN, or that nobody was entering a PIN and was just checking to see if there was any signal.

The iPhone belonging to Kremers was switched off for the last time on 11 April.

Among the photos found on the camera were disturbing ones which suggested that there had been an accident.

There were photos of the women’s belongings all laid out on some rocks, while another showed the back of Kremers’ head.

A number of pictures had been taken in the early hours of the morning of 8 April, with dozens of flash photography pictures snapped between 1am and 4am that day while it was dark.

The scant information left behind has resulted in plenty of theories of what happened to the two women.

The discovery of Froon’s backpack resulted in fresh searches near where it had been found, and denim shorts belonging to Kremer had been found on top of a rock on the opposite bank of the river, a few kilometres down from where the backpack had been found.

Two months later, a pelvis and a boot with a foot inside were found, and testing confirmed that the remains belonged to the two women.
